Things I Learned in the Middle of My 20s

As I write this very first post, it’s already 8 p.m., and here I am enjoying every second of my weekend—’cause life is now getting even more real. Like, literally. Everything feels like it’s changing so quickly, and if you know me in real life, yep, here I am, currently standing in the middle of my 20s. Teetering on the edge of being an old adolescent and a fully-fledged adult, trying to become who I’m going to be forever—without a removal van full of my old junk. But still, I’m nowhere near where I want to be. I’d like to talk about the process I’ve been through as a 25-year-old. And here are some of the things I’ve learned so far:

  1. Do saving. ’Cause life is unpredictable. I’ve been through some hard times involving money, many times—but maybe that’s for another story.
  2. Put yourself first, always.
  3. Your mental health is way more important than everything in this world combined.
  4. Side hustle is good, but know your limits.
  5. Every second of your time is priceless. Spend it on something that makes you happy. Choose wisely who you spend it with—for real, guys.
  6. Any form of physical exercise helps, even as little as 5 minutes. Just take a walk around your house in the morning, go for a run, do a home workout—anything. Even if it’s only 5 minutes, it matters.
  7. Yes, your friendships will get tested—definitely. Try to have a thick skin and let them go sometimes.
  8. All of your emotions are valid. And please, please, don’t ever try to be a “strong” person by covering up your feelings and emotions. That shit doesn’t make you strong. That shit doesn’t work.
  9. There will always be a time when somebody tries to do shitty things to you. Deal with it, then leave.
  10. Your own grass is green enough if you look at it closely. Love it, appreciate it, be proud of it.
  11. It’s okay to cry sometimes, with or without a reason. It’s okay. It’s okay.
  12. Mobile games are such a scam—but I love it, sometimes. lmao.
  13. Coffee really does help, especially during those hours between 1–3 p.m. on weekdays.
  14. Some songs just make more sense sometimes—especially when you’re not buying what life offers, or when you’re simply buying the idea of nothingness. Dangerously good. Sometimes.
  15. Self-love is still such an underrated thing.
  16. Most people will only love you and support you when its beneficial.
  17. There are too many rewards to count from not giving a flying fuck about things that don’t matter.
  18. There’s no need to feel special for something you already know better. Share it with the world. Make it useful.
  19. I’ve found that sometimes forgiving others is much easier than forgiving yourself. I’m still in the process of forgiving myself for everything that happened in the past—even ’til today.
  20. You have to stop feeling guilty about the past—’cause it’s done. And try not to feel anxious about the future—’cause it hasn’t happened yet.
  21. We can plan all we want, but 99.99% of life we simply can’t control. The only thing we can control is our response to life.
  22. I feel like life is a mirror and a reflection. What you give yourself, you can give to others. You can give people money when you actually have money. You can make people happy when you’re happy. You can’t give others money or happiness if you have neither. Still so many things to learn about this one.
  23. We always have a choice in this life—to stay, to leave, to love, to grow.
  24. At 25, you know less than you think you know.
  25. Last but not least: life is hard, obviously—but everything will be okay in the end.

I’m learning to try, and retry.
